It is a privilege not a right to boulder in these areas. As a user group we need to lead by example, access is not a given.

Bouldering and Climbing are dangerous recreational activities and contain risks that may result in serious injury or even death.

Boulder mats are designed to provide additional safety for bouldering. There is no guarantee that a boulder mat will prevent injury or death even if used correctly.

Boulderers/Climbers must be willing to take personal responsibility for their own safety and actions and acknowledge the inherent risks involved. Risk management techniques such as correct spotting technique and matting placement should always be adhered to.

In order to preserve continued access to public bouldering areas, we ask that all boulderers observe the 7 Leave No Trace principles:

  • Plan Ahead and Prepare

  • Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces

  • Dispose of Waste Properly

  • Leave What You Find

  • Minimise Campfire Impacts

  • Respect Wildlife

  • Be Considerate of Your Hosts and Other Visitors

In addition to the above, for bouldering this means adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Minimise impact by sticking to designated paths

  • Do not destroy the vegetation (if scrubbing is required do not remove plants ie ferns, orchids from boulders). If bouldering at Redbank (Whiterock) please check this link. Place your mats, don't dump or drag them

  • If chalk is required, use it sparingly, remove tick marks with a brush if any are placed when your session is finished

  • We would discourage the use of liquid chalk outdoors, as these often contain resin which can damage the rock surface

  • Do not mark or number boulders with chalk or other substances

  • Do not poo in the forest (find the closest loo and make a deposit in it)

  • Take all rubbish out with you

  • Respect other user groups, leave your music at home and enjoy the sounds of nature

  • Leave your pets at home

Please ensure that you are aware of our full terms and conditions before booking.
