What better way give yourself a buzz than to climb the 20m high cliffs in the heart of Brisbane's CBD.

The historic Kangaroo Point Cliffs are a true Brisbane icon, a majestic span of volcanic rock hugging the banks of the river. Perhaps you’ve seen them hundreds of times, always wondering what it would be like to scale those sheer faces. What will you find, clinging to the wall some 20m above the ground with the beautiful city skyline spread behind you?

It’s time to find out. Pinnacle Sports runs awesome, challenging, exhilarating rock climbing adventures at this unique urban climbing venue. Our 3-hour sessions are perfect for beginners and intermediate climbers, as well as groups, social clubs, parties, school outings and corporate events. With hundreds of routes available, ranging in difficulty from beginner to elite, there is literally something for everyone.

Meet your Pinnacle guide at the base of the cliff where you’ll run through some basic skills – tying in, belaying technique, climbing movement. From there, you’ll be heading straight up the cliff and finding out why so many folks are getting hooked on the sport!

If 3 hours just isn’t enough, take a look at our Climbing Technique Workshop 101, which takes the guesswork out of learning climbing movement! We’ll select the best climbs for your ability and provide tips and coaching on efficient body movement and technique.  Already have some skills? OUR GUIDES

Our awesome guides are highly trained, fully accredited, and totally stoked! They’ll teach you everything you need to know, as well as take care of the safety procedures and provide all the gear, including harness, helmet, climbing shoes and all other equipment. All you’ll need is a water bottle, appropriate clothing, and enclosed shoes for getting around the cliffs. If you have some climbing gear already, bring it along and your guide will let you know if it’s good to go.

The session runs for 3 hours from 7:30am to 10:30am

Can’t do a pull-up? Don’t worry – technique is much more important than strength! You’ll only need an average level of fitness to take part.

Brisbane Sunset Abseil

Abseil from the main 20 metre cliffs and marvel as the Brisbane city skyline turns from day to night behind you. This session runs 4:30-6:30pm (September to March). Session changes to 3:30pm -5:30pm April to August.

You approach the edge of the cliff, nervous but excited. The rope takes your weight, it’s strength reassuring. Below you, the proud ramparts of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs plunge some 20 metres to the banks of the Brisbane River. The sun dips low in the west, the sky darkens, and the lights of the city twinkle into existence one by one. Your pulse quickens as you step over the edge, descending with the help and encouragement of your Pinnacle Sports guide.

This is the Kangaroo Point Sunset Abseil – a unique and unforgettable experience. Join us for a challenging and atmospheric evening in one of Brisbane’s most iconic locations.

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

You don’t need much fitness to abseil, but returning to the top of the cliff requires ascending a steep staircase and ramp – some folks find it a bit draining! No technical experience is required whatsoever, we’ll teach you all the skills you need.

Overlooking the spectacular Sunshine Coast Hinterland, this is a perfect introduction to abseiling for those wishing to add a little adventure to their day.

For millennia, the iconic shapes of the Glass House Mountains have captured imaginations. If you’ve always found yourself drawn to these dramatic peaks, an abseiling adventure is the perfect way to experience this incredible part of Queensland.

Located 60 minutes north of Brisbane, Mt Ngungun is a deservedly popular outdoor adventure destination. Here, you’ll meet your Pinnacle Guide in the morning for a quick lesson in abseil skills before heading up the trail. Warm up with a short, atmospheric abseil amongst the ferns before climbing to the summit ridge at 253m above sea level. Spectacular 360-degree vistas await, a stunning backdrop for your 40m descent from the rocky escarpment to the eucalypts below. What a rush!

This is a unique adventure in a unique location, one we think you’ll find quite hard to forget!

SESSION TIME AND LOCATION

The activity runs for approximately 6 hours from 7:30am to 2:00pm (with some wiggle room for hiking thrown in). Check your booking confirmation for times. We’ll meet at the Mt Ngungun carpark, just past Glass House Mountains township, at 7:20am.

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

Meet your guide at the entrance to Mt Ngungun National Park, where you'll gear up before walking into the climbing site (don't forget your backpack as you'll be carrying some equipment in with you). A moderate level of fitness is required as the mountain is 253m high! The track is a mix of switchback paths and stunning views as you ascend under the cover of  eucalyptus trees. Once at the abseil site take a moment to admire the view, snack, rehydrate while your guide sets up the ropes. You’ll then head into an induction before trying a variety of abseils. Your guide may move locations through out the day based on participant ability and conditions.

WHAT TO BRING

Although your guide will provide all the safety gear, you’ll still need to bring a few bits and pieces, including:

  • Non-restrictive clothing. Check the weather forecast to get an idea of the conditions, but remember that the summit is exposed and weather can change quickly, so a light jacket or wind jacket can be handy

  • Enclosed footwear such as hiking boots or runners with grip, sturdy enough to handle a rough trail

  • A backpack big enough to carry all your gear plus some of the required safety equipment (e.g. ropes)

  • 2-3 litres of water, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses

  • Your own food and snacks, full of energy to keep you happy and psyched!


FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

You don’t need much fitness to abseil, but the hike to the summit of Mt Ngungun takes approximately 1 hour and covers some steep terrain and plenty of stairs. A moderate level of fitness is recommended. You don’t need any technical experience however, we will teach you everything you need to know for a safe and fun abseil!

For decades, it has been the perfect introductory location for those who are entering the wonderful world of rock climbing. This mountain has a special place in many climber’s hearts.

Join the ranks and cut your teeth with the help of our fantastic Pinnacle guides. They’ll teach you everything you need to know for the session, from climbing skills to belaying techniques, as well as taking care of all the rigging and safety considerations. No experience needed, just turn up and climb!

Been bouldering in an indoor climbing gym, but keen to try your skills on the real stuff? Maybe you've never tried this bouldering thing, and don't know where to start. Mat placement, spotting, route finding - there's a lot to learn when it comes to outdoor bouldering! Whatever your motivation, we've got you covered. During this activity we will teach you the skills required to boulder outdoors with confidence and flair. Your qualified guide will teach you the fundamentals of bouldering outdoors and get you on some suitable problems to start your outdoor bouldering adventure.
